Charlie out on bail!

After a week in dreadful conditions in a Gambian jail cell, Charlie has been released on $450,000 bail pending his trial for “economic crimes”.  We are all relieved to see this happen after so many obstacles were put in the way of his release.

We are proud of the way he handled this dreadful time and are determined to clear his name of these ludicrous charges.

If love and support from family and friends could free any soul from such a depressing situation you would have been reeased in a minute. However we need to maintan support and pressure.

It’s been wonderful news of Charlie’s release. He has contacted his brother – Phil – in Plymouth. He is obviously shaken by the ordeal and is understandably concerned about going back to court on Monday to face the charges. He does not wish to experience the prison again and wants out of the country asap to be back in the safety of England. He will not be truely safe until he is away from Gambia. The company have, and still are, working their socks off to make this happen. The Northfield family thank everyone concerned for their continuing hard work.

  8. Carol Richards Says:

Many thanks to everyone for all their kind and encouraging words, and the help and support for my brother, Charlie.
After a great deal of hard work by many people, at least he is out of prison. But waiting trial is a very difficult time, and we look to everyone for their support in raising awareness of his case.
    Thank you

  14. Danny Avery Says:

We seen havn’t seen Charlie since he was a young boy ..maybe some 40 years ago I think. From what I recall he was always determined then to get into mining. He comes from a good caring and loving family and has been brought up the right way with sound morals and judgement. I’m sure he has not knowingly undertaken any activity that is illegal. Hopefully this issue will be sorted shortly and Charlie came get on with the rest of his life.
Thinking of you and all the Northfields. Danny and Kath Avery

  15. Danny Avery Says:

Re my last comment I think it was probably more like 30 years rather than
40 !! But my sentiments are the same. Danny Avery.

    Yo Charlie
Keep yer chin up – can’t be worse than playing soccer at Goonhavern on a wind February Sunday!!

Hope it all gets cleared up. As i am still working in Africa it is a bit disturbing what a small misunderstanding and lack of knoweldge can lead to.

    Cheers
